Knowsley Safari Park

Yesterday we took 10 of our members out on a trip to Knowsley Safari Park as part of our Soul Refreshing Project funded through Living Well Sefton.

It was an absolutely lovely day and we were extremely lucky to see some incredible animals on the 5 mile safari drive. We wisely opted out of driving through the Baboon enclosure but got a good view from the main safari and watched them play together as well as with windscreen wipers and jump all over cars and their wing mirrors – we were glad to have avoided these cheeky monkeys!

We had Rhinos, Lions, Ostrich and Camels in our path along the way and we felt like we had the chance to get up really close to these beautiful animals.

We stopped for lunch on picnic benches inside the main Zoo and went on to watch a Sea Lion show, see Meerkats and Giraffe before watching the final show of the day in the Birds of Prey house.

We headed back to the minibus and took one last drive through the Safari – another wonderful experience and arrived back at the Community Centre at 5pm.

We feel so grateful to have been able to provide such a wonderful experience and we can’t wait to continue this project next month.

Soul Refreshing – Chocolate Whirled

We have been really lucky to have the support of Living Well Sefton with our project Soul Refreshing this year. We are taking groups of our older members out on trips and this week we went to Chocolate Whirled who were once again, absolutely incredible!
We are so grateful for how they are able to accommodate our groups and the sessions they provide are amazing. This week we made Easter egg shaped chocolate bars and printed chocolate lollipops. This was followed by the opportunity for our group to have a hot drink and a piece of cake and a really good chat ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿซ

Totem Pole Project

We have been working with Natural England in the Ainsdale Pinewoods for a few months now after adopting the Buzzard on the Totem Pole that they have had carved ๐Ÿ˜€
We were really lucky to have been asked to help paint our section and our group have done an incredible job with the support of Natural England staff and our youth team!
Last night we went to help finish painting our section and then we were given a guided tour of the pinewoods learning about birds and other creatures and finished with a moment of relaxation listening to the sounds of nature ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿชบ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฆ†
We can’t wait for our next Totem Pole session ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™Œ

Woodvale Community Cupboard

Hi all,
We are lucky to be working with FareShare who are helping to reduce food waste. This means, when we can, we are able to pick up food donations. We also receive food donations from local people, businesses and other voluntary organisations throughout the year.
We want to make sure that you have access to this food and therefore we have installed a community food cupboard outside the community centre.
It is back to back with our noticeboard on the grass and we have created shelves for various purposes (use by food, best before dates, long life etc.)
At the moment it isn’t fully up and running but there are some pancakes in there if you would like to come by and pick some up. Please help yourselves.
Please note the following:
Use by food: After the use-by date, don’t eat, cook or freeze your food. The food could be unsafe to eat or drink, even if it has been stored correctly and looks and smells fine.
Best Before: The best before date, sometimes shown as BBE (best before end), is about quality and not safety. The food will be safe to eat after this date but may not be at its best. Its flavour and texture might not be as good.
Please always check the dates on food in the cupboard, only take what you need and speak to a member of staff if you wish to donate to it.
We will always post to Facebook when the cupboard has been stocked.
